Barre + Runway

The barre class portion of the workshop will focus on increasing endurance, improving your posture, hip alignment, and support overall coordination. The use of music, choreography, and the flow of high powered sequences will keep you energized and ties in nicely with the runway exercises that will follow. A barre workout supports a model’s physique and lifestyle. The fundamentals and concepts taught directly relate to runway technique.

  • Posture and alignment check-in: a critical practice for those of us sitting behind computers for a majority of the day.

  • Exercise your coordination, using music to propel movement and practice picking up choreography on the spot.

  • Learn exercises to support lean muscle tone.

  • Practice essential turns and poses for a strong walk, on and off the runway.

  • Build confidence walking in heels + learning more about stage presence for performances and presentations.

  • Beginners will be exposed to the world of runway, whereas more advanced models will have the opportunity to enhance their skillset and discover new exercises that support their runway craft and practice.

The fundamentals and concepts taught during a barre class directly relate to runway posture and technique. A model with a strong core, and strong posture has more physical and mental freedom to build their confidence walking in heels and to find their personal style on the runway!

The barre class will be led by Shawnda of Get Kinected Fitness, and the runway class will be led by model and runway coach, Leah Hamilton. For beginners, this is a great event to get a taste of the modelling world and meet with Leah about future training or booking opportunities. For more advanced models, the combination of the two classes provides the opportunity to work on leading with your hips, improving posture, playing with a variety of music styles and facilitate practice.

What do I wear? Arrive ready for a workout, yoga or pilates class type attire. We suggest leggings and a form fitting top. Socks or ballet slippers are often worn for barre classes. We will break after the barre portion of the workshop and you will change into your heels. Runway heels are 2-3 inches and no wedges, stick to a classic heel. If you work up a sweat during the barre class, we suggest you bring a different tank top or t-shirt to change into for the runway portion of the workshop.

Sign-up process: Register below for the in person session or the remote session. If the remote option is what you sign up for, please note we will be filming the live class and send you the footage of the session for you to access. You will have access to the online version of the course for up to a year.

Can I do both classes? Will they be different?: We are excited to offer two classes quite close together and we encourage models to attend both classes if they are available. While the fundamentals of both classes will be the same, the exercises and choreography will build on each other. This is a great way to keep up your practice and sustain your improvement. With this in mind, if you are a model who decides to sign up for both workshops, you can do so for a discounted price of $105 + HST (savings of $45). You can select this package under the pricing options below. You can also select each individual class under the pricing options below. Email [email protected] if you have any questions! Thank you!
